The quickest and easiest way to attach a GPS tracker to a vehicle (and be able to remove it again) is with a magnetic GPS tracker.

Magnetic GPS trackers have their own battery source and can last up to 6 months on a single charge.

The magnets used are industrial strength and will not lose their strength or fall off - no matter what speed the vehicle travels at or how rough the terrain is.

It takes just seconds to attach a magnetic tracker and you don't even need to access the inside of the vehicle or asset - simply attach it to the flat metal chassis area underneath.

ATTACHING A MAGNETIC TRACKER UNDER A CAR

→ Visually check the underside of the vehicle (make sure that other road users will be able to see you if you are low down). You are looking for a flat metal area, with non-moving parts. Typically towards the rear of the vehicle, behind the wheel arch areas you will see the chassis beams. Do not mount on the exhaust or engine.

→ Once you have located your spot, make sure that there is no dirt, debris, or residue on the metal. Give the area a quick wipe if need be.

→ Mount your magnetic GPS tracker against the metal, ensuring the magnet side of the case is flat against the metal. You will feel the magnetic pull take hold.

→ Pull the tracker in all directions to make sure it is secure.

→ You are now ready to begin tracking.

→ When you are ready to detach your magnetic tracker again, locate its position and simply tilt the tracker case on its side. This will help dispel the magnetic pull. You will be able to lift your tracker away easily.

WILL MY MAGNETIC TRACKER FALL OF IF THE CAR GOES OVER A BUMP?

Nope. When the tracker is attached to flat metal, the strength of the magnet will hold it in place over rough terrain.

Also, the advised position for your device is above the lowest part of the vehicle, so any uneven terrain that hits the bottom of the vehicle will not impact the tracker either.

OR THROUGH A CAR WASH?

Nope again. I actually have personal experience of this, whilst I was testing 3 magnetic trackers out in different areas under my own car. I decided to test their strength through a service station drive-through car wash to test the impact.

Not one of them budged!

OR WHEN MY CAR HAS AN M.O.T?

We have had no reports of a tracker being damaged or removed whilst a vehicle goes through an M.O.T.

Of course, if you still have any concerns, then you can simply remove your tracker in advance and place it back on the vehicle afterward.

IF THE MAGNETS ARE SO STRONG, WILL I BE ABLE TO TAKE THE MAGNETIC TRACKER OFF?

We have spent a lot of time promoting the strength of the magnets and how they won't budge regardless of the environmental conditions. So how do you actually take them off?

You'll be pleased to know your tracker will detach just as easily as when you attached it.

To do this, simply grip the tracker case and tilt it either left or right.

Doing this releases the magnetic pull, and you will be able to lift your tracking device away from the metal (steel) surface with ease.
